Positano is nestled in the heart of the Amalfi Drive, located where the Sorrentine Peninsula bends towards the South becoming the Gulf of Salerno. In the middle of this panoramic bay lie the Islands of Li Galli, formerly called the "Island of the Sirens" in mythological times, as it was believed that the islands were inhabited by Sirens that lured sailors with their beauty and sweet melodies.
The houses in Positano seem to cling to the mountain, sitting one on top of the other, framing a black volcanic beach. The beach is also the centre of activity.
